Wii are All Unique!
This is the message that 16 year old Megan Beaudoin wanted her peers to embrace through her YouthScape HRM and Mavericks project called iUnique. This project began as an idea to give youth a space where they could express themselves and allow their peers to understand what they were going through. The idea was inspired by the fact that many people judge ‘different’ behavior as being weird or unacceptable which causes unnecessary conflict between peers both in school and in the community. Art in Action
In Hamilton, young people want to become more involved in the
city’s budding arts community through diverse, accessible and
hands-on projects. Youth (aged 13-25), local artists and community
service representatives teamed up to create the Hamilton Youth
Arts Network to provide young people with opportunities and
support to pursue a variety of arts based projects and initiatives. More... |

Growth of OYSC YouthScape!
| The goal of project OYSC (Ogden Youth Supporting Community), Thunder Bay is to bring a group of neighbourhood youth together to increase the number of youth-led activities in their underserviced community. The group is made up of 7 youth ages 15 and 16. At the beginning of the project, they felt that their age was a challenge. They were frustrated by adults, city officials in particular, who didn’t listen to them because they were “just a bunch of kids and we don’t pay taxes, so who cares about us”. More... |

The Béluga Rivière des Prairies (RDP) project has progressed from the idea stage to being a real project with firm community support that is expanding its circle of followers and devising an exciting and attractive game plan for the RDP community. Little by little, Béluga has become a mosaic of projects and worksites through which youth and adults

Creating Strong Adult Allies
Working with young people on community projects offers an immensely rewarding opportunity for adults to nurture youth engagement, leadership, responsibility and values. Watching young people take part in something meaningful, and encountering their fresh perspectives and excitement can fill adult allies with hope and enthusiasm. What are the steps to becoming an effective ally? YouthScape Halifax Regional Municipality has developed some suggestions to help adult allies work with youth.
